Race Track Experience

Mel learned to Groom and Exercise racehorses at The Hawkeye Horse Racing School in 1985 which is a private school. Mel learned how to groom them and gallop them. She has been certified as a Stable Manager & Intermediate Exercise Riding. Along with that, Mel has worked with Arabians, Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horse racehorses (Canterbury Downs, MN, Wilmington, DE, Micanopy, FL). Mel worked as a groom for Lasma South Arabians grooming Arabian Race horses. She groomed such greats as Flaming Tron Ku and Wiking, (see below picture) Wiking won the Armand Hammer $50,000 stakes that year and was named Arabian Race Horse of the Year. Mel then traveled to Canterbury Downs in Minnesota and worked with Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racehorses. Her next stop was then Florida to work again for Lasma South (Now Town and Country Farms). While Melissa enjoyed grooming the horses her true passion was training show and pleasure horses so she parted ways with life on the track.
